IAMIKAN
An "Urban Visionary" - "Redefining art as a living experience!"
- American Contemporary Art Magazine
Self taught, Iamikan’s artistic passion derives largely from his relationship with nature, possessing an understanding of the subtle web in which nature’s algorithm interconnects and communicates. Through this interchange, he decodes the properties of oil and acrylic paint, altering its dimensions with layers of amber like resin. This exchange, Iamikan says, activates the paint with purposeful movement like a gradually erupting volcano. It is within this form of liquid lava transitioning into a solid state, that he designs his alchemy. Each piece undergoes a particular metamorphose during which it hardens and fossilizes, allowing at times, up to 9 months to evolve and curate fully. The mediums on which he expresses his mastery range from: steel, wood, canvas, glass, tree bark and rice pressed paper.
Iamikan’s childhood spent in the verdant mountains of West Virginia greatly influenced his fine-tuned connection with the "art of nature," and his passion to work in the arts. Iamikan moved to New York in his early twenties, quenching his thirst to work as performer. His big break came by way of Disney Studios who contracted him to perform a starring role, in what is now the longest running spectacle in Europe today, called the "Buffalo Bill Wild West Show". For just under a decade Iamikan performed in Paris, where he developed a wide range of artistic skills, including: photography, film, fashion and music.
During this 10-year sojourn, Iamikan learned to speak 4 languages and extensively traveled Europe and the world over, experiencing culture and acquiring a showmanship that caters to his philosophy of "life as a living stage". This cultural exchange opened up many paths to explore and expand his nature as an "art of technology", inspiring Iamikan to pioneer a science of mixed media using oil and acrylic paints layered in resin. He interprets his art from a unique perspective of algorithms, formulating each piece in a mental equation, using calculations that he configures in Iamikan code. He then uses the application of fire, water and air to create his designs, revealing an elemental originality and quality that expresses a 3 dimensional art as a "living experience".
Iamikan returned to the states a few years ago to exhibit his collection, which is currently showcased at Gallery Iamikan in Charleston S.C. His art has received national recognition and has been published in numerous magazines and newspapers.
